01 Lab operators and finance teams both use Quartzy to seamlessly manage the entire lab procurement lifecycle.
From order requisition and approvals, item procurement, delivery, PO closure, inventory management and order history tracking- Quartzy is built to handle it all. Having a single platform simplifies communication by keeping the entire team in the loop about deliveries, where items are stored, and the latest order requests to avoid overspending.
Quartzy is also the only platform that also has a mobile app which allows users to scan item barcodes to keep inventory up-to-date, search inventory for specific products, and generate order requests when supplies are running low.

02 Quartzy’s integrated shop and fulfillment centers provide better availability, lower prices, and faster delivery times for crucial products.
In addition to procuring supplies from third-party vendors, Quartzy is the only platform that also owns and operates its own warehouses, allowing users to buy millions of products directly from their integrated shop. This allows Quartzy to provide real-time stock visibility and faster processing and shipping compared to third-party vendors. Quartzy often stocks their warehouses with items they can buy in bulk from vendors and then pass the savings on to their users. Customers can buy items from Quartzy’s shop and third-party vendors in a single cart so ordering is less fragmented. And centralizing orders through Quarty’s shop improves order history transparency which can be useful for budgeting, grant tracking, and audits.
Quartzy and Zageno offer some overlapping capabilities when it comes to working to procure items from major lab suppliers (i.e Thermo Fisher, VWR, Sigma-Aldrich, etc.). However, users have reported that pricing is not as transparent on Zageno. They often end up spending 3-4x the price on certain items and get billed multiple times for shipping from both the third-party vendor and Zageno. Quartzy, on the other hand, offers price matching with items in their shop. And when buying from a third party vendor, users only have to enter item prices one time and Quartzy will remember the information for all subsequent orders.
During our trial, scientists overwhelmingly chose Quartzy. They could easily request items directly from their phones or the Quartzy marketplace, and I’d have all the exact details needed to place the order. Inventory setup was quick, the punchout integration with our accounting system was seamless, and pricing was transparent and stable. The platform delivered both significant time savings and measurable cost savings.
03 With Quartzy’s API and integrations, labs can sync and automate lab operations processes.
Quartzy and Zageno offer some of the same integrations with most major Procurement-to Pay (P2P) systems and ERP systems. But since Quartzy is built with a focus on lab operations rather than just procurement and finance, it offers many more integrations with communications, productivity, ELNs and LIMS softwares.
Quartzy and Zageno can also generate custom integrations for an organization. However, only Quartzy provides free access to their public API so users can build their own integrations.

04 BioPASS gives labs a dedicated “BioPartner” to help fulfill their unique procurement needs.
BioPASS (Bio Procurement, Accounting & Spend Solutions) is a new white-glove lab procurement service offered by Quartzy. A BioPASS subscription connects labs with a designated BioPartner, an individual procurement expert who acts as an extension of their team. The lab’s BioPartner handles price comparisons, ordering, vendor communication, order tracking, and invoice processing so lab members can devote more time to their research. It’s like having a personal shopper for the lab who understands their clients specific needs and finds the perfect fit every time.
If your organization has discount contracts or bulk pricing deals from vendors, BioPartners can buy items at your prenegotiated prices and find reliable alternatives if an item is out of stock. They are included as members of the lab’s Slack or Microsoft Teams apps so they can collaborate and respond to urgent requests in real time.
Most of the Quartzy employees I've spoke [sic] with are previous lab managers and have an innate understanding of how everything works "on the ground" so to speak. Our accounting department likes that we're able to leverage Quartzy's large purchasing power to garner better prices on our regular consumables, usually 15% or more cheaper.
On the other hand Zageno outsources procurement to teams that execute orders and manage vendor communication. This means users will likely interact with a different person on the procurement team every time they have a concern or request, requiring the user to re-explain their lab needs, order history and supplier preferences. This leaves more room for miscommunications, order inaccuracies, and delays.
This structure also places full responsibility on the user to contact the procurement team if they want to make adjustments to their order. Zageno uses automated notifications to inform users of cheaper options, backordered items or delivery delays, but then the user must be proactive about contacting the procurement team to make alternate arrangements so that their crucial lab supplies arrive on time.

05 When things go wrong, Quartzy’s stellar customer service is proactive, not reactive.
Even without BioPASS, Quartzy stays in direct contact with their dropship partner to ensure every order is shipped and delivered on time. Users are kept up-to-date on the status of their orders and are proactively informed if items are out of stock, backordered, or are delayed. Quartzy immediately emails users and admins about critical issues and updates item statuses in its platform. Anyone on the team can check the status of orders by clicking on the Orders tab in their account. Quartzy’s customer support team is available to help with any questions or concerns Monday through Friday, 7am to 4pm Pacific and has an under 3 hour response time.
Other platforms put the onus on their users to check on specific orders to get notifications about critical delivery issues. Once an issue is discovered, the user must then contact their procurement team or the lab supplier directly to resolve the issue. This can cause even longer delays if users do not see notifications immediately or are unable to prioritize researching an alternative solution.
Whether you are a scrappy start-up, an innovative academic lab, or dynamic biotech enterprise, Quartzy offers a truly personalized lab procurement solution. Need more convincing? Check out Quartzy’s 4.6/5 rating on Capterra (based on ~265 reviews) and 4.3 rating on G2 (based on 93 reviews).
The customer support is excellent. The days wasted on the phone trying to track down the status of an order are a thing of the past. Backorders, substitutions, returns and exchanges are all one click or in-app message away.
